adidas Adizero Adios Pro 5: The Next Generation of Race Day Speed Has Arrived

Running Bear |

Race day just got faster.

The adidas Adizero Adios Pro 5 has arrived, bringing some of adidas' most advanced racing technology into the latest generation of its iconic Adios Pro family.

Launching at Running Bear on 1st October in the Chicago colourway, the Adios Pro 5 has been completely reimagined. It's lighter than the Adios Pro 4, introduces an entirely new carbon technology and takes inspiration from the groundbreaking Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3.

If you've got a PB in your sights, this is one shoe you'll want to know about.

Meet the adidas Adizero Adios Pro 5

The Adios Pro has long been adidas' flagship race-day shoe, built for runners looking to perform at their best from the start line right through to the finishing tape.

But the Adios Pro 5 isn't simply an updated Pro 4.

adidas has reworked every major component of the shoe, taking technology and learnings from the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 and bringing them into the Pro family.

The result?

A lighter, more responsive race shoe designed to help runners maintain speed deeper into a race.

At approximately 177g in adidas' UK 8.5 sample size, it's around 23g – or 12% – lighter than the Adios Pro 4.

Even more impressively, adidas reports a 9% improvement in energy return compared with its predecessor.

That's a pretty serious upgrade.

Goodbye ENERGYRODS. Hello ENERGYRIM.

Perhaps the biggest change to the Adios Pro 5 is something we've become used to seeing inside adidas' racing shoes disappear.

The ENERGYRODS are gone.

In their place is adidas' new ENERGYRIM technology.

Rather than individual carbon-infused rods running through the midsole, ENERGYRIM creates a carbon-infused structure around the shoe.

Why change it?

Removing the rods allows adidas to place more uninterrupted LIGHTSTRIKE PRO foam directly underneath the foot while still creating the stiffness and propulsion you'd expect from a carbon race shoe.

The ENERGYRIM is designed to provide tuned stiffness and stability while working with the foam to create that fast, energetic sensation underfoot.

It's also one of the technologies inspired by adidas' ultra-light Adios Pro Evo 3.

Next-Generation LIGHTSTRIKE PRO

Of course, a race shoe is only as good as what you're standing on.

The Adios Pro 5 uses the latest generation of LIGHTSTRIKE PRO, adidas' premium racing foam.

Lightweight, responsive and designed to return energy with every stride, it works alongside the new ENERGYRIM construction to create a spring-loaded ride.

Together, the updated foam and carbon construction contribute to adidas' claimed 9% increase in energy return over the Adios Pro 4.

For the runner, the goal is simple: help you run efficiently and maintain your speed when the miles start getting tough.

Whether you're chasing a 5K PB or hitting the final 10K of a marathon, that's exactly where you want your race shoe working for you.

It's Seriously Light

One of the standout numbers from the new shoe is its weight.

The Adios Pro 5 weighs approximately 177g in a UK 8.5 sample size.

That's around 23g lighter than the Adios Pro 4.

Twenty-three grams might not sound huge when you're holding a shoe in your hand, but over thousands of strides during a half or full marathon, reducing unnecessary weight matters.

adidas has stripped back the shoe without stripping away the cushioning and protection needed for longer-distance racing.

LIGHTLOCK 2.0: A New Race-Day Upper

The changes don't stop underneath the foot.

The Adios Pro 5 introduces a completely redesigned LIGHTLOCK 2.0 upper, engineered to provide a secure race-day fit while keeping weight to a minimum.

Ventilation zones help improve breathability, while internal support bands and an updated heel construction are designed to hold the foot securely as your pace increases.

It's minimal where it needs to be, supportive where it matters and designed with one thing in mind: racing fast.

Lightweight Grip with LIGHTTRAXION

Underneath the shoe, adidas has also redesigned the outsole.

The new LIGHTTRAXION outsole uses a data-driven design to strategically place grip where it's needed while removing unnecessary material and weight.

It's paired with Continental™ rubber around the toe-off area, giving you dependable grip as you push through the final stage of your stride.

That means you still get the traction needed to attack corners and maintain confidence on the road without carrying unnecessary outsole rubber around for 26.2 miles.

Adios Pro 5 vs Adios Pro 4: What's Changed?

Quite a lot.

The Adios Pro 5 represents one of the biggest changes we've seen within the Adios Pro line.

Adios Pro 5 brings:

  • New ENERGYRIM carbon technology replacing ENERGYRODS

  • Latest-generation LIGHTSTRIKE PRO foam

  • A claimed 9% increase in energy return

  • Approximately 12% reduction in weight

  • New LIGHTLOCK 2.0 upper

  • Re-engineered LIGHTTRAXION outsole

  • Continental™ rubber at toe-off

  • Increased influence from adidas' record-breaking Pro Evo development

Rather than tweaking the existing formula, adidas has effectively reconsidered how its flagship race shoe should work.

Who Is the adidas Adizero Adios Pro 5 For?

This is a performance-focused race shoe.

If you're looking for a comfortable everyday trainer for easy miles, there are better shoes within the adidas range for that job.

The Adios Pro 5 is for the days when pace matters.

We'd recommend it for runners targeting:

5K | 10K | Half Marathon | Marathon | Road Racing | PB Attempts | Key Race-Pace Sessions

Its combination of lightweight cushioning, carbon propulsion and high energy return particularly makes sense for runners looking to race longer distances efficiently.

Inspired by Record-Breaking Innovation

Part of what makes the Adios Pro 5 particularly exciting is where its technology has come from.

adidas has taken learnings and innovation from its most extreme racing shoes and applied them to the latest Adios Pro.

The Adios Pro 5 was extensively developed and tested with athletes across Kenya, Ethiopia and the United States, with more than 25 athletes involved in the process.

The result is a race shoe designed not just to feel fast for a few strides around the shop, but to help runners sustain their performance when it really matters.

The Chicago Colourway Lands at Running Bear

And we couldn't launch this shoe without bringing in a seriously good colourway.

The adidas Adizero Adios Pro 5 launches at Running Bear on 1st October in the Chicago colourway, arriving just in time for one of the biggest periods in the autumn racing calendar.

Whether you've got an autumn marathon approaching, you're hunting down a new 10K PB or you're already thinking about next season's races, this is adidas' latest answer to one question:

How do we go faster?

The Adios Pro 5 is lighter, more responsive and completely re-engineered for race day.
