The Guide 19: Your everyday road companion

The Saucony Guide 19 is designed as a maximum-cushioned stability trainer for everyday miles. It uses Saucony's CenterPath technology, combining a broad platform and raised sidewalls to help guide your foot through the gait cycle without relying on a traditional medial post.

Underfoot, PWRRUN cushioning provides a comfortable, protective ride, while the rocker geometry helps create smooth transitions from heel to toe. It's a dependable choice for daily training, recovery runs and longer road miles.

The Guide 19 is particularly suited to runners who want stability without an overly controlling feel.

Meet the Guide TR

The new Saucony Guide TR takes that same comfortable, supportive concept and adapts it for runners who don't want their route limited to tarmac.

The biggest difference is underneath the shoe. Instead of the Guide 19's road-focused outsole, the Guide TR features a PWRTRAC outsole with 3.5mm lugs, giving you considerably more traction when the surface gets loose, uneven or wet.

It's designed specifically for road-to-trail running, meaning you can comfortably run out from your front door, hit a gravel path or woodland trail and keep going without needing to change shoes.

The Guide TR also features a PWRRUN+ sockliner, adding another layer of cushioning and comfort underfoot.

So, which one feels better?

Both shoes are built around cushioning and stability, so the overall DNA is very similar. The Guide TR, however, is designed to feel more capable when the terrain becomes unpredictable.

The Guide 19 is the better choice if the majority of your running is on roads, pavements and well-maintained paths. It's a straightforward daily trainer that prioritises comfort, protection and guided stability.

The Guide TR makes more sense if your runs regularly move between surfaces. Think canal paths, towpaths, gravel, bridleways, compact trails and mixed-terrain routes.

The 3.5mm PWRTRAC lugs give the TR significantly more bite away from the road, while the ruggedised upper provides additional protection for off-road adventures.

What about stability?

This is where the two shoes remain closely related.

The Guide TR isn't a completely different trail shoe with a totally different stability philosophy. It takes the Guide's supportive platform and cushioning and combines it with more versatile traction.

That makes it particularly interesting for runners who already love the Guide 19 but want to explore trails without moving into a traditional, more aggressive trail shoe.

If you need a shoe that feels familiar on the road but gives you extra confidence once you leave it, the Guide TR is the natural progression.

Which Saucony Guide should you buy?

🛣️ Choose the Guide 19 if:

  • You primarily run on roads and pavements

  • You want a comfortable everyday stability trainer

  • Your routes occasionally include smooth paths

  • You prioritise a smooth road-running feel

  • You want a versatile daily mileage shoe

🌲 Choose the Guide TR if:

  • You regularly run road-to-trail routes

  • You run on gravel, woodland paths or compact trails

  • You want more grip and traction

  • You don't want to own separate road and trail shoes

  • You like the Guide's cushioning and stability but want more off-road capability

The verdict

The Guide 19 and Guide TR aren't competitors so much as two versions of the same idea.

The Guide 19 is your go-to for comfortable, supportive road miles. The Guide TR takes that formula and adds the traction and protection needed to confidently venture beyond the pavement.

If your running routes are becoming a little more adventurous, the Guide TR is a seriously versatile option. It bridges the gap between a traditional road trainer and a dedicated trail shoe, giving you the freedom to explore without sacrificing the cushioning and stability you already love from the Guide family.

Road to trail? Guide TR.
Road all day? Guide 19.
A bit of both? The Guide TR might just be your new favourite.
