It can help to reduce and prevent the risk of injury, caused by wearing the incorrect shoes for you.
Whilst it's important that the trainers you choose to run in are comfortable feel great - they must all support your foot shape, your movement style and be ultimately fit for the purpose intended.
If you're experiencing any niggles or pains during or after running, please don't brush these off - they could be hints of an underlying issue.

Online Gait Analysis how to
STEP 1: RECORD TWO SHORT VIDEOS
- Set the camera about 50cm off the ground.
- If helped by a friend, we recommend kneeling down or squatting for better results.
- Please wear shorts or tights to ensure that we can see your legs and ankles clearly.
- Make sure that you're at the centre of the screen and the image is clear.
VIDEO 1: BAREFOOT BENDING KNEES
- Stand barefoot (no socks) facing the camera with feet hip-width apart.
- Slowly bend your knees as far as is comfortable, almost like you are going into a squat position but without raising your heels or pushing out your bottom.
- Note: it's important to keep your upper body straight. Please avoid squatting and/or looking down.
Record the movement 3 times from the front and 3 times from behind.
VIDEO 2: RUNNING / WALKING
- Put on your current running shoes (or other fitness shoes).
- Take a gentle, relaxed jog down the street (or a garden etc) for 15 seconds and back again. Do this 2 times.
- Please run / walk on a flat, hard surface – road or pavement – so we can see the gait clearly.
- During your run, try to ensure we will be able to see your body/form correctly by not moving too far away from the camera.
- If you attend the gym, ask a friend to record from behind whilst you're on the treadmill! Ensure we can see the entirety of your body from behind.
STEP 2: SHOW US YOUR SHOES
Take three different photos of the shoes you ran / walked in during the video test above.
We need photos of the shoe from three different angles, as shown in the photos.
- Shoe profile (inner side)
- Shoe profile (outer side)
- Shoe soles

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Gait Analysis?
What is a Gait Analysis?
When a gait analysis is performed, we look at two things, primarily, where your foot strikes the ground and how much your feet are pronating. Once this information is recorded, it helps us match your foot's behaviour, size, and shape to the correct shoe type. With the right shoe type, the risk of injury is reduced, and your running form can improve as different parts of your body are no longer compensating for lack of balance.
A gait analysis can help identify common causes of running injuries. By looking at the footage, we will determine if your cadence is correct, if there is a lack of core strength or flexibility in the hamstrings and calves, or if you are heel striking.
