Race Day Clothing

It is important to check the weather before you head out to the race. On colder days, dress like it is 10-20° (F)  warmer than the outside temperature to calculate your running temperature. If you are debating whether or not to bring gloves and a hat it’s always a good idea to have them go without! Below are a few of our favourite choices for all sorts of races despite the weather.

Some runners are reluctant to use a safety pin to pierce through their running gear, that is why we recommend these Ultimate Performance Race Magnets!

Hats & Sunglasses

Especially if you are out on the road, do not let the sunlight reflect off the pavement onto your face/into your eyes. By keeping your eyes and face protected in the shade you are reducing the risk of sunburn & dehydration. Wearing sunglasses is also an excellent way to look super cool and psyche out the competition 😆.

Belts, Hydration & Fuel

We cannot recommend enough that you practice your fueling routine before your big race! Sometimes when you are looking for gels for your marathon, a sugary sweet pack looks delicious, but by mile 22 the last thing you want is sugary sweet birthday cake batter fuel! Practice with different types of fuel and methods of hydration so you are ready for your big day. Some runners like to carry water & Gatorade with them during their race, when you are training see what works best for you!

Below are some of our favourite hydration belts & fuels.

Technology & First Aid

Many runners like to run with their phone to listen to music or track their miles -but it is actually a great safety advantage as well. In the times of 2020, you might be required to run with a face mask but don’t forget the other health necessities like nipple protectors & anti-chafe cream!

Recovery

We actually have an entire article based around the importance of recovery but as a brief tip we can suggest the Hoka and Oofos Recovery Sliders as a perfect way to walk around after your race!

Let us know how you do in all of your races -especially if you wear Running Bear gear tag us in your photos on Instagram and Facebook.

Good luck and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to call the Bears, we love talking about all things running!
