Running Bear Presents.. The Track Mile – FAQ’S

Running Bear are proud to present ‘The Track Mile’ at the Cumberland Arena in Crewe on Friday 1st September.

On a track measured mile, you can race competitively for a new mile PB! You may be a regular track athlete or perhaps it’s the first time since school, but we’ll give it a good go!

Heats will start at 6:30pm, you’ll be notified of your heat time in advance. There will be a number of heats between 6:30pm and 9:30pm based on your predicted time, there will be no more than 20 in each heat.

The music will be blasting and there will be food and drink available so bring your friends/family to cheer you on as you go up against club mates, team mates and friends!

We’ll have photographers on the course so get #RaceReady and practice those finish line smiles.

This event will be chip timed via bibs and results will be sent directly to your mobile following your heat, so please ensure the mobile number that you enter when signing up is correct. There will be a digital certificate available for download from the results.

There will be prizes on the night for the fastest female and male athletes, plus lots of spot prizes along the way.

Transforming Lives will donate £1 from every entry to The Joshua Tree, a local charity who support families affected by childhood cancer.

What shoes should I wear?

The main answer is, whatever you feel most comfortable in! But for this distance and on a track, we’d recommend racing flats (or your race day shoes). You want something light and fast!

Some of you may be used to running in track spikes and so if you are, we’d recommend Middle Distance spikes.

Will I have a number?

Yes you’ll be able to collect your number on the evening, simply head over to the registration desk and one of our Bears will get you sorted.

Will there be a clock?

Yes, there will be a clock track side.

Will there be toilets and changing rooms?

Yes to both.

How will I get my results?

Your results will be texted to the mobile number you provided when signing up, if you believe the number to be incorrect, please email info@runningbear.co.uk as soon as possible.

Will there be parking? Is there a cost?

Thomas street has 140 parking spaces, so we’d recommend car sharing if possible. Parking is free after 3pm.

Do I have to wear a club vest?

It’s certainly recommended! If you aren’t part of a club and fancy being a part of something special, you can join the Bear club here.

Will we run in lanes? How do we overtake?

Lanes won’t be needed, if you’re unsure of track etiquette then this Youtube video may be of help.

In the early stages of your heat, be aware of other athletes around you (including behind), check then move out – always overtake on the outside.

Will there be food and drink available on the night?

We’ll be providing water and basic tea and coffee for entrants, there’ll also be a food/drink van available for spectators and runners to purchase some goodies from.

Can spectators come and watch me?

Yes most definitely, the more the merrier! Just please ensure that come 6:30pm, they’re not on the track.

Is there an age limit?

Definitely not, we see all ages take part in these types of event – it’s never too late to challenge yourself! There is however, a minimum age of 16.

I don’t normally race on the track, will I be okay?

Absolutely, the beauty of it being one mile is that anyone can give it a go! Whether you’re a trail runner, road runner or seasoned track expert – this race is perfect for competitively ‘having a go’!

If you have anymore questions, don’t hesitate in reaching out to us via info@runningbear.co.uk or calling 01625 582130 and the team will be delighted to help.
