And a very different story
We live our lives based on our perceptions of reality. How we see the outside world, as opposed to the actual! Sadly for many, it then becomes our limiting beliefs which impact most on our performance…Meaning we never achieve as much as we set out to in our running!
We create our own self-talk which can seriously hinder our own behaviours and results.
Let me introduce you to Wilma Rudolph. Born into an impoverished American family and part of a large sibling group. Born premature and contracting polio at an early age, which created the need to wear a knee brace.
That looked that it might be Wilma’s lot in life. And it could well have been…One day Wilma decided she was fed up wearing the brace and decided to take it off…
”Wilma, it won’t work” …Was said by all.
It did work, even though initial progress was slow. One day Wilma decided to try running.
”Wilma, it won’t work” …Was said by all.
It did work, and again, with slow and ungainly progress. Wilma then decided to enter a race.
“Wilma, you have achieved much…But recognise your limitations”…Was said by all.
And the outcome of all this? The short version is that Wilma represented America in the 1956 & 1960 Olympic Games winning numerous Gold medals and at the same time creating world records! The long version is here! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilma_Rudolph
To most people, you would argue that the thinking was right…Wilma came last. But most people were not Wilma. Undeterred, she carried on…And some more…And then some more.
We have choices…Be victims to our limiting beliefs or change our self-talk and discover our true potential…And see a difference in our running!
“Never underestimate the power of dreams and the influence of the human spirit. We are all the same in this notion: The potential for greatness lives within each of us”.
